Taking Flight Today and my Packing Gear

It’s 1230am in Vancouver right now and I’m currently sitting on the airplane as it prepares to take off to Taipei.

After landing in Vancouver from Edmonton, I immediately made my way to the Premium Lounge to take advantage of my Priority Pass, an access card to premium lounges all over the world that have complimentary drinks, food, showers, etc. I received the card when I signed up for a BMO World Elite MasterCard when they had a promotion for first year free. I recommend this card for anybody looking for a good MC with good travel incentives. You get I believe 25000 welcome points which is enough for a round trip to Vancouver as well. I actually booked my flight to HCMC using my points and I saved over $500 dollars doing so.

For this trip I packed pretty light, taking with me the following:

  • 3 pairs of shorts
  • 1 swimming trunk
  • 3 pairs of socks
  • 4 underwear
  • 3 shirts, 1 tank top
  • 2 pair of long pants
  • Pair of flip flops
  • Pair of Nike runners
  • Pair of chuck converses

I considered only taking one pair of long pants, but because I’ll be doing a trip to Sapa, I figure it’d be wise to carry an extra pair of pants as it can get cold up in the mountains during this time.

In addition, I brought along a first aid kid containing:

  • Benadryl
  • DEET mosquito repellant
  • Imodium
  • Malaria pills and other prescribed drugs
  • Sunscreen
  • Hand sanitizers

Miscellaneous stuff include:

  • iPad (from Costco, which I will return once I fly back home because I’m an unemployed bastard)
  • Book I’m currently reading (Presence by Amy Cuddy)
  • Mummy silk suit
  • Microfibre towels
  • Contacts
  • Glasses
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • iPhone
  • GoPro
  • Travel plug in adaptor
  • Portable charger

I fit of all these items into my Osprey Farpoint 55. It’s technically too large as a carry-on, but I’ve never had an issue. I also did a backpacking trip through Western Europe with no issue.

I got tons of room left for souvenir purchases so if you’re looking for a great bag I recommend the osprey Farpoint 55 (it has a detachable daybag that is approximately 15L I believe…but don’t quote me on that)

Anyways, that’s all of now! Update coming soon!

  1. Load the book onto your ipad and throw the book out….which you will regret when you run out of battery and wish you didn’t throw out the book. Have fun son.
